Repurposing a 7.2m Boardroom Table

Text By OPM | September, 2025

Breathing new life into a timeless piece for a Global Law Firm

In 2016, OPM designed and manufactured a bespoke 7.2m boardroom table as part of a landmark fit-out for a Global Law Firm. Nearly a decade later, working in close collaboration with Task Systems, the same client approached us once again—not to replace the table, but to reimagine it. Refurbish, Repurpose and Recycle are services we offer to our clients to reduce waste and help contribute to a sustainable future for their workplace.
The original boardroom table was a centrepiece of the firm’s executive meeting space. Designed with a veneered surface and a black Fenix technical inlay running through the centre, the table was accented with a mirror-polished trim that echoed the elegant, sculptural base. At 7.2 metres long, the table made a bold and confident statement—perfectly aligned with the firm's identity.

Fast forward to 2025, and the firm sought to refresh its boardroom aesthetic without discarding a well-crafted and still-functional centrepiece. OPM was brought back in to lead the transformation. We began with an on-site survey to assess the table's current condition and discuss refurbishment options. Our goal was clear: retain the existing base and mirror-polished trim while updating the tabletop to reflect a more modern and warmer palette.
After agreeing on a design direction, we created detailed technical drawings and submitted material samples for client approval. The new surface is finished in Fenix NTM 0748 Beige Arizona, offering a subtle, matte texture and a contemporary tone that contrasts beautifully with the original trim and base.

Importantly, this wasn’t just an aesthetic upgrade—it was a sustainable one. By repurposing the existing base, connectivity systems, and decorative trim, we significantly reduced the need for new materials. The adhesives used in the new build were entirely free of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds), ensuring a healthier finish for both people and the environment.
This project demonstrates how thoughtful design and responsible manufacturing can come together to extend the lifecycle of high-quality furniture. At OPM, we believe that good design doesn’t always mean starting from scratch. In many cases, reusing and reimagining existing elements can lead to even better outcomes—both aesthetically and environmentally.

We’re proud to have revisited this boardroom table nearly a decade after its original installation and given it a fresh, future-facing update. It’s a testament to enduring craftsmanship, collaborative client relationships, and the growing importance of sustainability in workplace design.
